Job Summary

The Family Support Specialist supports the vision of the Total Healing Environment and the values of respect, integrity, accountability, commitment and quality by providing support to families with children prenatal through five years of age who have been identified by assessment as having multiple risk factors that could increase risk of possible child abuse or neglect. These families will receive support services largely through home visitation prenatally and/or at the birth of their child through year five. Important aspects of service include: parent education, developmental assessment, role-modeling, knowledge of and referral to community resources, advocacy, emotional support, record keeping and excellent interpersonal skills.

Job Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  Fluency in Spanish

Required Qualifications:

  • High School graduate or GED
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, Social Work or a health related field and one year of experience in a Human Service field with experience in child development, mental health, education or social work; two years preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Demonstrated commitment to primary prevention
  • Demonstrated ability working with families
  • Ability to effectively utilize community resources
  • Ability to listen in a non-judgmental manner to discuss and resolve problems, while providing emotional support
  • Positive role-modeling and teaching skills
  • Ability to exercise flexibility and patience
  • Must be able to utilize a team approach
  • Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's license, provide proof of automobile insurance and have reliable transportation to make home visits
  • Current, valid AZ DPS fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona law or provide documentation of application for AZ DPS fingerprint clearance card within seven (7) days of hire
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Provider certified
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing providing excellent customer service
  • Basic computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Windows
